The Case Concerning the Suthan Referendum

2022 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

The 20th edition of the Italian National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition took place online - due to the Covid-19 pandemic - from 9 to 12 February 2022

A protest poster featuring a man with glasses and a beard overlaid with glitch effects. The poster contains political messages, including 'Shed the yoke of oppression by those who would desecrate our Shrine and deny our traditions,' and references to the Suthan Referendum, with a map of the United States and various country names. It also displays dates from February-March 2022, including court details of a legal case in Antara, Democratic Republic.

The Democratic Republic of Antara (Applicant) and the Velan Kingdom of Ravaria (Respondent) appeared before the International Court of Justice to settle their differences concerning the Suthan Referendum.

The case presented the following issues:

  1. The admissibility of illegally-obtained evidence;

  2. Foreign election interference;

  3. State-sanctioned suspension of social media accounts; and

  4. The legality of extraterritorial cyber enforcement operations.
